Default Special event idea - Welcome to yesterday

While i was getting rid of my old tyrian stuffs (those used to worth alot!!), I suddenly (yes, just last night after all these years) realized that how much gw has changed since the beginning...

The moment I saw a "GOLD" item dropped for you in a mish.
how happy i was when i found a Superior Rune of Vigor out of chest gold
How expensive it was to make a 55 monk (all those expensive superior runes!)
UW and ecto drops!!
FoW and chest runs
farming hydras and totem axes...
Hours of spamming "LF healer - i'll pay X k" in towns

I think many who joined GW late won't ever find out these glorious experiences and frustrations!!

So, I want to suggest Anet to have a special event to revert the game back to the initial release for few days (or is this a pure stupid idea?). I know this would be very tough (i know some lvl of programming & DB). But nothing is impossible, right =)

Please share your thoughts on this or just share your glorious (or horrible) experinces to young GW community.

Cheers!

-- Mania

i know that guildwars changed even a great deal even before i started to play but to do that would change the economy of the game even if it was for a short time of 24 hours
i would say no to the idea for the reason there are more frustrations then nice experiances

That poses the problem in a few cases, but if u changed the economy, what happens to things like the derv, para, rit and assasin?

Would a superior derv rune just be as expensive as when nf came out? or compare it to other sup runes?

also some skills might have to be removed to balance out the old skill descriptions, otheriwse you would have some extreme advantages over old skills.

might be fun, but i dont fancy paying another 85k for a superior absortion rune lol.

See what a-net thinks :P

i would salvage all the runes off my chars and sell them to rune trader, wait till weekend was over and re-buy them all at the modern cost.

Not sure how you could force the economy to change. Even by limiting or increasing the drops for a short period of time would only have a minor effect. To really effect the economy it would have to be a long term change. Increasing trader values would shift the cost of buying materials and runes but most peopel would just wait it out if it was a short term thing.

As for the skills reverting back to the origional skill descriptions, I would would be interested in seeing that for a weekend maybe or a week at most. I think it would be fun to PB UW with my 55 monk. I wonder what builds would dominate HA if that happened.

Interesting concept in regards to skills, no so much in regards to the economy.

The devs can't just throw in a couple lines of code and put the economy back to where it was and make gold weapons worth something; and to make Superior Vigors and Superior Absorptions worth 70k+ again would just ruin everything.

Basically, you're right when you say things were better back 2+ years ago, but there's really no way to revert it, even for a weekend.

/that's unpossible

Not practical, for reason already mentioned, but nice to think about how things were back then. If you met someone in Fire Islands they were most likely a decent player. All the n00bs who weren't lucky enough to have a guild help them were still trying to do Dunderhead Keep.

Uh, I don't think they'd have a copy of the state of the game from 2 years ago for rollback.

"WTB STACKS OF SUP ABSORB RUNES"
a few hours before the event... xD

Good old times... sadly that kind of event would be, I'd say completely impossible on the live servers.

But if they had old game version somewhere and could run a separate server, Prophecies only, I would certainly play that!

Everyone start from point zero again. A separate world free of the crap that's happening now.

Oldschool GvG's the way of first World Champs!

But still the hardest part would be determining what game improvements, balance changes and nerfs should apply.
Some skills of the past were incredibly broken, having this turn into a degenerate 55hp Protective Bond solo UW farmfest wouldn't be cool. Or spirit spam and Iway at full power in PvP.

Probably the best and easiest way to do it would be just using current game build, just run a fresh new completely separate server with only Prophecies content enabled. There were huge loads of positive updates that happened to the game since earliest times but some are debatable:

*Include Sorrows Furnace or not? - some would agree that the game wouldn't be 'oldschool' with all the greens there. But more content is better and SF was fun to play.
*Tombs of Primeval Kings oldschool entrance to HoH or PvE dungeon? (B/P farm farm farm and every warrior has Victos Bulwark+Axe) debatable.
*Include the HoH global tournament at all? Holding HoH would be piece of cake on a sever with very low player population.
*Locked Chests? or unlocked barrels/wreckages?
*Insignia for all Armors? - probably better yes, would make more sets viable.
*Hard mode enabled? - this is very debatable and dangerous.
*Loot scaling? Maybe only in hardmode? Again comes the problem of the game degenerating into solo farmfest.
*AoE mob spreading? - imho should work as today.
*Any Titles? - imho they wouldn't hurt and would give more things to do, nice to be the first Protectior of Tyria on the server or a Vanquisher later if HM enabled at all.
*Favor of Gods issue - free access to UW/FoW ? Based on titles maxed? Or
*End of FoW and UW chests - drop inscribables? That could actually turn pretty interesting if the only inscribables on the server came only from them. +15^50 "Strength and Honor" 100k ok? Or maybe it's just better without them at all.

hmm maybe there should be a separate thread for discussing this?

I understand your feeling, it was a very nice time. But what have is what have been, face it, the past will always look shiny, since you will never be able to get there ever again. :/

i understand... i wasn't really suggesting converting the current system back to what it was back then. Just an experience for a short period of time on the old system (of course, a dummy one). That's it =)

At least, i wasn't the only one who missed the old time, hehe.

Why not just go and Make a character in pre-Searing?

Pre-searing is frozen in the old system. Enemies won't even run from AoE.

Gotta Say The original cd's still have the old code, there's a shred of chance they can do it. Still I don't see it happening.

Yea, because pre-searing is basically the whole game, is it not?
